Farmhouse on fire in Kake-cho (12/20/2020)

Saw smoke rising behind the mountain and went to investigate. Got there before the fire trucks. Fortunately, no one was hurt in this fire!

I don't think it liked the tape measure next to it so it moved away into deeper water.
Giant Japanese Salamander (Part 2)

I realized there was nothing in the first video to show how large the salamander was, so I went back to try and measure it. I was actually surprised that it was still in the same place when I got there. I measured it at about 110 centimeters long.

Saw this rare salamander in the river by my house. Very unusual to see one in the wild, especially during the daytime.
Tanuki (Raccoon dog) * UPDATED *
Переглядів 14 тис.7 років тому
After the original upload had more than a million views, Orchard Music claimed copyright infringement because of the song that was playing in the background when the Tanuki decided to stop by for his nightly snack. They agreed to let me keep the original video on UA-cam if I let them get the money from commercial adds they would start showing over my video. I spoke with the Tanuki when he came ...
Tanuki pup set free
Переглядів 1,2 тис.8 років тому
A month and a half after being relocated, the pups have grown to about twice the size they were when first captured. The male in particular has acquired a taste for frogs and worms and seems especially restless in the cage so it's time for him to be set free.

The most important part of getting these pups ready to be released into the wild is familiarizing them with their natural foods. This is their first encounter with a (dazed) frog...
Tanuki Pup

I was amazed to discover these Tanuki pups in the storm drain next to the warehouse where I work in a semi-industrial area near Hiroshima. If animal-control found out they would most likely trap and exterminate them so I decided to try and relocate them to my place in the mountains where there are many Tanuki living. I wasn't sure if they were ready to leave Mom yet so I gave them some dog food...
Tanuki (Raccoon dog)
Переглядів 1,8 млн13 років тому
Wow!!! I uploaded this video to show a Stateside friend who had never seen a Tanuki before one of my local pals stopping by for his nightly snack. I had almost completely forgotten about it until 4 years later when another friend wanted to see what a Tanuki looked like. Imagine my surprise to see over 800,000 views! Thanks for the many thumbs up and (mostly) positive comments!
These things and raccoons in North America are the best example of convergent evolution in my opinion. I could easily convince myself a Tanuki is a raccoon.😂
tom nook moment
優しい人だと分かってるから、野生動物なのに手から食べたのかもしれませんね。
Boku wa doctor
It is unfortunate that everyone is here because of a video game or anime. I long for a world where the raccoon dog can become a global force, admired on its own merit everywhere, by all peoples!!! The one true supreme canid!!! Tom Nook is a foul cretin and a charlatan who besmirches the tanuki's good name.
hehehe this is so well-constructed! made me laugh :)
amazing

@@pankoza tanuki aren't dogs, they're vulpines (i.e. foxes)
Is it kind of like a fox ?? There’s no way that’s a dog
It's in the Canid family, it's related to foxes and dogs but it isn't technically either
@@cooperkellis2659 By some definitions it technically _is_ a fox, as it's a vulpine, and is more closely related to the majority of foxes than bat-eared foxes are.
You’re telling me that’s not a raccoon ??
Firstly, you didn't need to make 3 seperate comments. Secondly, that is indeed, not a raccoon. It's a canid that looks like a raccoon. Hence why in english, it's called a "raccoon dog." I personally prefer to just use the japanese term "tanuki" to avoid confusion. Tanukis are also closely related to foxes.
@@vulduv so are they pets or illegal to have ? Only wild ? You kinda came off as a douche with the first sentence not gunna lie 😭😂 I was excited by what I saw … idk why I made separate comments but I did 💀 I’m just a girl and an animal lover ..
@@reyrey7868 Sorry about that, did not intend to be rude. And it probably depends on where you live. They are definitively not common to have as pets though. But they are pretty cute. :3
@@reyrey7868 you didn't need to make 3 separate comments but you did and whether intentional or not it's comedy GOLD 😂hit me right in the funny bone for sure. It reads like you were so perplexed and bewildered by the majestic tanuki that you kept coming back to the video after mulling over the same question like "but..but what IS it!?"
@@reyrey7868legality aside, they are absolutely not suitable pets for almost anyone, and in europe they are also invasive, so keeping them and risking their escape into the wild is highly ill advised

They have not been domesticated yet. And they are illegal in the USA because they would destroy several of the Native species. If they got out. Which could potentially destroy a couple of natural habitats also. I have no clue if they would mate with raccoons or dogs potentially creating a huge mess....
raccoon dogs can mate with neither raccoons or dogs, raccoons are not in the canidae family, and raccoon dogs are very confusing in terms of relationship with dogs, but they are too far removed to mate.
Humans, the most destructive creatures on the planet, have no right to talk about other animals destroying things. We have a choice yet still do horrible things. Nonhumans are just doing what comes instinctively. They don't choose to be destructive. We do.
@@englishatheart Bravo! Good show! You certainly showed that guy who was concerned for the well being of the local ecosystem and wary of the possible ramifications of introducing foreign living things to places they don't belong, the error of his ways! Attacking people on the internet over usage of a word that their species has earned from experience sure beats actually protecting Mother earth and making an effort, doesn't it?
Holy shit, forget getting burned, you just made this person spontaneously combust. Also good point.
